The Wimmera. Everything you need.
The Wimmera is home to many high-quality primary and secondary schools, which are rated highly by parents and students alike. Schools form the focus of many of the communities in the Wimmera, forming a strong support network for students and their families.
Primary education in the Wimmera, in particular, is seen as high-quality and producing students who are well-equipped for secondary school. The advantage of schools in the Wimmera is that, compared to many suburban schools, the student numbers are smaller and the attention each child receives is greater. Small rural and regional schools often have higher income per student than larger schools.
Secondary schools are fewer in number than primary schools, so have higher student enrolment numbers. Class sizes, however, are still often smaller than in metropolitan areas. A wide range of subjects are offered, and many students study additional subjects by video link.
While it is a fact that fewer secondary students from regional areas go on to university studies than those from metropolitan areas, the standard of their education is generally not a highly influencing factor in that decision. Distance, financial implications and separation from family influencing factors. Each year many Wimmera secondary students are accepted to Australia’s leading universities. Many Wimmera students also take up cadetship, traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities.
