Early Childhood

You need:

  • early childhood education that is inclusive and accessible
  • to have your involvement in your child’s education welcomed
  • for your child to establish life-long friendships at an early age

The Wimmera.  Everything you need.

Play groups, pre-schools and kindergartens in the Wimmera are a central part of many families’ lives. In line with government policy across the country, Wimmera’s early childhood providers have prepared for the introduction of universal access. Universal Access commits to the provision of a quality preschool program for all children by 2013 for 15 hours a week in the year before starting school. Most kindergartens currently offer 11 hours a week in the 4 year old program, this will be an increase in funded hours for your child to attend kindergarten.

Munyaradzi's Story

Munyaradzi Mugari (also known as Munya) arrived in the Wimmera with his wife and son in November 2008.

“We moved to Warracknabeal as part of a group of nurses and their families who were employed by Rural Northwest Health. We arrived after having made the difficult decision to leave Zimbabwe and the difficult economic situation there, to try and create a more prosperous future for our family.

“Our son Kundai, has settled in very well initially at Kinder where he got tremendous support from the Kinder teachers and later at school, making a surprisingly easy adjustment to a new language and culture. He has made some friends who I hope will be his life-long friends.
